As an Accredited Specialist in Criminal Law, Asha is recognised by the Law Institute of Victoria as an expert in criminal law and procedure.
Asha is an accomplished lawyer who has practised solely in criminal defence since 2018. With significant experience representing clients across a broad range of summary and indictable matters, she is recognised for her technical expertise and client-focused advocacy, bringing extensive knowledge of criminal law and procedure.
Before joining James Dowsley & Associates, Asha practiced in both the community legal sector and Victoria Legal Aid where she held several senior roles, developing a wide expertise representing clients in the Magistrates’, County and Supreme Courts, as well as the Children's Court.
Asha regularly appears across a variety of types of hearings and specialist jurisdictions, including family violence and sex offence lists, the Koori Court (which she is particularly passionate about) and the Assessment and Referral Court (ARC). She regularly instructs counsel in trials and is well-versed in complex indictable criminal cases including offences such as fraud, drug trafficking, sex offences, arsons, serious assaults and homicides.
