The annual Galbally Cup was played on Sunday 13 October 2016 at Victoria Park. The event is sponsored by Reclink Australia and has the Victorian Bar playing against a team of solicitors. James Dowsley & Associates was well represented on the day with four solicitors involved being Kieran Reynolds, Tom Flicker, Chris Edwards and Brett Barratt. Also playing for the solicitors was former employee Will Parker. In what was incredibly windy conditions the barristers got off to a fast start with a couple of early goals. The bigger bodies of the barristers proved difficult to overcome as the day rolled on.

The solicitors trailed at every change and eventually went down by 3 goals. The firm was well represented with strong efforts throughout the backline from Kieran and Tom. It was suggested that the solicitors comeback was halted after the three quarter time siren when Chris formerly of our Dandenong office missed a straight forward set shot that would have turned the momentum.

Following the football game, a post-game function was held where the purpose of Reclink was explored in more detail. The guest speaker for the day was Graeme Alford, a former solicitor who spoke of suffering addiction and doing multiple stints in custody before rectifying his life and becoming engaged in Reclink supporting disadvantaged youth.

Brett Barratt of our Frankston office took out best player for the solicitors on the day in a performance that the office is hailing as superior to the best on ground efforts of former employee Tom Oldfield in the corresponding game a few years ago.
